There is a particular recent study I found rather interesting in regard to this herb. (Physiol Behav. 2008 Sep 3;95(1-2):88-92. It has been revealed that potency wood mechanisms of action include anticholinesterase effects, and involve beta-adrenergic and dopamine D(1) receptors.”

Okay, the neurotransmitters Acetylcholine and dopamine in the brain are responsible for maintaining libido. Simple enough-that is the reason the herbal extract is in Pornstar™?

Betea Superba Extract: Betea Superba A.K.A. Butea superba contains a high cAMP phosphodiesterase inhibitor activity. Obviously this is directly related to corpus cavernosal vasodilation.

To study the effect of Betea superba extract on erectile dysfunction in Thai males, 3-month randomized double-blind clinical trial was carried out in volunteers with erectile dysfunction, aged 30-years to approximately 70-years to evaluate the therapeutic effect of the crude preparation of Butea superba tubers on erectile dysfunction. Estimation of the sexual record indicated that 82% of the patients exhibited noticeable improvement. Hematology and blood chemistry analysis revealed no apparent change. Come on now, you have to wonder why this under-50 ingredient seemingly simple matrix is something to get excited about. First note most of the compounds ALR uses are Alpha-hydroxy analogs. Malates are the most awesome esters. This is important to you due to more than a few reasons. Malates posses a positive results enhancing longer half-life when compared to other esters. Certainly longer than plain L-Arginine or other amino acids in un-protected forms commonly found in most formulas.

Second important synergistic fact is the significant increase in oral bioavailability. This means malates deliver active compounds longer and in larger amounts than other common analogs used in NO or other related products. Okay, so now that we have all the benefits of NO up-regulation maximized and synergistically formulated, why do we include Tri-Creatine Malate and Creatinol-O-Phosphate (COP)? We have already validated the potential for a 34% increase in ATP production and a 20% increase in phosphocreatine (A.K.A. Creatine Phosphate, the kind of creatine used in muscle cells) from Citrulline Malate, right? Simple: Because a formulary based upon a complete none-competitive synergistic matrix uses all of the functional and additive physiological pathways so 1+1 = 3 and you grow.

First, all test subjects did increase lean mass notably and lose bodyfat, and all subjects did increase muscle size and mass as well as obvious harder looking density. Older subjects appear to have provided the greatest results to review likely due to age (dormant cells and fibers in muscle increase with age). My personal experience has been very note worthy but more so when the necessary synergistic compounds are included in the supplemental protocol. In this case strong NO augmentation. We tested the new WTF® both with and without Creatinol-O-Phosphate. Now that we know we will be training like an over pumped up beast and burning calories, how are we going to trigger supraphysiological levels of muscle cell nutrient up-take? First we know that NO supports nutrient up take at the cellular level by acting as a messenger, but we need some help shuttling some serious calories INTO the muscle cells to support cellular recovery and anabolism. More Interesting Research: GH and Cortisol

The use of AI’s has pretty much become the supplement industry standard for testosterone boosting. And it works pretty well. Jungle Warfare™ and Restore™ are serious products for this reason….and others.

The way AI’s work is by controlling the aromatase enzyme that converts susceptible androgens (like testosterone, androstenediol and others your body makes) into estrogens. When there is too much estrogen in the body it shuts down the HPTA and the “boys” stop kicking out the testosterone. Well, AI’s shut down the excess estrogen production and the “boys” get to run wild for awhile. Big problem with most AI’s is the possible false positive test results for athletes.

This is important for superior mass gains:

Usually the very low circulating estrogen levels required for anti-estrogens to positively affect natural testosterone levels will suppress or decrease proper intracellular fluid retention in muscle. In short, less cell food means less cell size and growth.

While being very dry is important for shows, and there is a period in every protocol that estrogen suppression is significantly beneficial. (25R) – 4-Spirosten-3b,6b-diol: The plant 4-Spirosten analogs appear to have the potential for mild aromatization thus aiding synergistically in mass gain oriented product designs. In the original testing (and according to the Russians) the structure overall was a good standalone compound for weight and strength gain support but in our opinion was best when we augmented BAM® with synergists like any stack. Does it work? Well, we have a patent pending on it at the moment so we obviously think so.

(25R) -5- Alpha-Spirostan-6-one-3b-ol: Here is an interesting non-aromatizing compound that the Russians bragged a bit about as being superior for strength and hardness. Personally (and I do not blame other sharp researchers for continuing to doubt its value) I noted an increase in hardness, strength and libido after about the first week of use.

Since we were getting good results with these two unlikely compounds we finished the design with two extracts we have had good results from.

Ptychopetalum Olaoides Extract: Okay, so this is also another odd one but so was creatine monohydrate when it first hit the general market. (Athletes had been using it for years before then). A simple name for this herbal is Muira Puama which is an extract from a plant in the Amazon region of South America. It has been widely used as a powerful aphrodisiac, nerve stimulant, tonic and cure for rheumatism and muscle paralysis. We used it as an overall adaptagen. Over a period of about 2 weeks we have seen (and felt) a significant increase in training intensity as a result of use. Finding the right extraction method for potency and affect was the hard part. (Lots of Third Party Reference reading at the end for those interested)

Basella Rubra: No doubt many are going nuts on PubMed and elsewhere trying to figure this one out. Simple, it has some interesting carriers in it, and some other aspects I will explain in the up-coming FAQ.

Okay, What’s In Jungle Warfare® Extreme and how will it help me gain muscle?

Basella Alba Extract: Yeah, I know, a few other companies are bragging about being the first to find this multi-affect anabolic support herb. Sadly they only caught half of the extraction methods needed for full potency and now we have to go through the clinical validations to prove it just to be certain no one mixes our product up with the lesser formulations. But, they are being honest! They did discover it…on the label of one of our products we released in 2005 called Bad Ass Mass™. Kind of like Christopher Columbus discovering America…the Indians who live there for centuries and the Vikings that visited it didn’t even know it was lost. We used Basella Rubra on our labels which is a synonym often debated for Basella Alba and it is even sometimes referred to as Basella Alba Rubra. The fun part is we have learned a newer extraction and fractionation method that makes the extract far more effective…and independent validation is well underway.

So What Does Basella Alba Ruba Actually Do?

Though the herb has been used in folk medicine for centuries and sold as a supplement for more than a few decades there really has not been much valid human research on the herb itself. So naturally there has not been much research on the active compounds it provides…when harvested from the right places and during the right time of the year.

In one study {1} “Bull testes from the slaughter house were a cheap source of pure Leydig cells. In culture, these cells produced testosterone for 5–6 days, which can be stimulated by human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG). Basella alba extracts significantly enhanced testosterone production in bull and rat Leydig cells in a concentration-dependent manner. Hibiscus macranthus showed no androgenic effect but was shown to inhibit testosterone production at higher concentrations.” When the most active fraction found in Basella Alba Rubra extracts was tested alone there was a 2 fold increase in testosterone production (200%). So about now someone doubts these facts and there being specific fractions we isolate and utilize for optimal results others are apparently unaware of…Well…

“The methanol extract of Basella alba was further separated by silica gel column chromatography. When bull Leydig cells were incubated with various fractions (100 g/mL each) for 12 h, significantly (P < 0.05, paired t-test) enhanced testosterone levels compared with the control were obtained in culture supernatants containing fractions B, J”, K, K’ and L and hCG control not containing DMSO (Figure 4). When bull Leydig cells were incubated with different concentrations (10 g/mL and 100 g/mL) of these fractions for 4 h, testosterone was only detectable in incubations containing hCG without DMSO and fraction B”.

“Based on the above results, only fractions from Basella alba were further analyzed for their androgenic activities. In purified bull Leydig cells, many of the fractions tested (mainly B, J”, K, K’ and L) induced testosterone production after 12 h exposition. Usually, for studies on the effects of various compounds on Leydig cell function, these cells are incubated for 3–5 h [6, 14, 18, 19]. Thus, Leydig cells were also incubated for 4 h with the above named fractions in order to compare the response to that obtained after a 12-hour incubation period. Here, testosterone was found only in incubations stimulated by fraction B. In other incubations, including the controls, testosterone levels were below the detection limit of the RIA (0.006 ng/mL). Generally, the levels of testosterone produced by the purified Leydig cells from bull in this study was lower compared with those of rats. That might be the reason why testosterone was not detected in the control. Moreover, fraction B of Basella alba caused a concentration-dependent increase in testosterone production in rats Leydig cells culture, thus confirming the results obtained with bull Leydig cells. This suggested fraction B as the active one. As shown by TLC analysis, fraction B is a mixture of two fluorescent products with Rf values of 0.43 and 0.57 (on CH2Cl2/methanol 97: 3 v/v solvent system), respectively. Phytochemical tests demonstrated the presence of terpenoid or steroid compounds in these fractions. Some steroid compounds such as cholesterol or dehydroepiandroste- rone are known as a precursor of the biosynthesis of testosterone. Further studies will probably help to elucidate the structure of compounds responsible for androgenic activity.”

*It should be noted that there are many different hibiscus cousins and correct time as well as method of extraction is paramount to test result. We have also tested the three knock offs claiming they discovered in the past few months compounds we have become experts in working with due to years of experience. Nope, we have done a bit of testing and noted the levels of fraction “B” are rather low in them.

So we have 2 mammal’s leydig cells (the cells from the testes that produce testosterone) responding to Basella Alba Rubra extract in a manner more commonly attributed to gonadaltropin: Increased testosterone production. Okay, not a big deal…yet.

In another rat study {2} Mature male albino Wistar rats (180-220 g) were given by gastric intubation Hibiscus macranthus Hochst A ex Rich (Malvaceae) and Basella alba L. (Basellaceae) aqueous extract from both fresh and dry leaves, at a dose equivalent to 0.720 or 0.108 g of plant, respectively per kg body weight. Results showed that the extract from fresh leaves significantly increased the body weight of rats by 17% from day 7 as compared to controls. The serum level of testosterone was significantly increased on the 15th day by 80% in rats given both types of extracts compared to the controls. Testis of treated rats showed high testosterone production in vitro (136% and 62%, respectively for treated and control after 15 days. So we know it’s the fresh leaf extracts that is far more effective by over 2-fold. Now, imagine if your extraction method allowed for fractionation mentioned in the above study in favor of the actual compound that triggers the dramatic increase in natural testosterone. (Of course we isolated the actual “most active fraction” in our extractions. We are researchers and scientist, not kitchen sink formulators). But this does not mean that oral bio-availability is optimal due to just a unique and specific extraction method. But we will get to that in a bit…

Divanil 95%, (-)-3,4-divanillyltetrahydrofuran A.K.A. DVTHF: are all synonyms for a specific lignand extracted or concentrated from nettle root (stinging nettle) that inhibits the actions of a protein called SHBG. The compound works very well for its intended purpose but it oral bio-availability sucks as well as does its plasma half-life. We fixed that but more on that later.

So how does (-)-3,4-divanillyltetrahydrofuran do its thing? For the most part your circulating testosterone is bound to a plasma protein called Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) which renders it inactive {3} {4}. As a rule SHBG normally binds over 90% of your total testosterone so that it can’t do it muscle and male signal thing by way of merger with androgen receptors (ARs). (-)-3,4-divanillyltetrahydrofuran is a lignand found in stinging nettle, which binds to SHBG allowing your testosterone to be freed so that it binds to Androgen Receptors for muscle recovery, performance and growth. This lignand shows very high binding affinity for SHBG about equal to that of DHT. Although free (active) testosterone is significantly elevated and maintained at the appropriate time-release dose, so is total testosterone. Naturally estrogen and estradiol are lowered! End result is a significant and functional increase in both total and free testosterone.

Nettle Root (Urtica dioica) Concentrate: So why would we add this if we already have the most active SHBG binding lignand (-)-3,4-divanillyltetrahydrofuran? Simple, we like the affects of a lignand metabolite called enterofuran {3} as well as a few others that have several studies supporting the belief both inhibit DHT binding to prostate tissue thus hinder the effects of BPH {4}. Keep in mind DHT is a powerful natural androgen and it drives everything from sex to focus to energy and of course, muscular augmentation plus performance support. Additionally, enterofuran too inhibits SHBG binding to testosterone thus supports an increase in free active testosterone.

Resveratrol: So now we have established a significant and results providing level of both total and free testosterone, it may be a good idea to increase it more while inhibiting estradiol activity and elevation as well. Resveratrol {5} is a well known estrogen receptor antagonist meaning it’s like your little brother when you try to put some game on your date: It blocks any action from occurring. However, Resveratrol is also a powerful aromatase inhibitor (AI) thus not only perfect for blocking the estrogen receptors from various estrogens, it also inhibits aromatase enzymes. This means that the aromatase enzymes capacity to convert that manly testosterone into girlie estrogens is inhibited significantly. This mean you are harder and realize additional increased natural testosterone production by acting upon the pituitary gland. When this occurs the pituitary releases a hormone called letinizing hormone (LH) which in turn tells the testes leydig cells “More Testosterone” {6}! One of the problems with Resveratrol is the same as many herbal related compound: Too short of a half-life. In this case Resveratrol possesses a half-life of about 14 minutes, which sucks if you are expecting a physiological benefit. Unfortunately Resveratrol has poor oral bio-availability. Yes, we corrected the problem and will explain later.

Bitter Melon Extract: Bitter melon is also known as Momordica charantia. Many interesting physiological qualities have been attributed to different parts of the plant from from hyperglycemic and insulingenic to androgenic properties which appear to be similar to a SARM in action and another study shows a significant increase in natural testosterone resulted. The latter has only been validated in rats at this time {9} though we certainly are looking forward to doing human studies since it has been in use as a food, folk medicine for centuries and as a supplement for about 60 years. We have included Bitter melon in Jungle Warfare® Extreme for both its positive affects upon glucose clearing (more cellular glycogen for more ATP, better pumps and increased protein synthesis) and its SARM-like affect. Talk about formulary synergy!

Conjugated Coleonol Extract: This originates as a 95% extract from Forskolin. Then we conjugate the fractionated extract utilizing our IR/EXR ME Time-release Maximal Oral-Bioavailable process resulting in a complex several times more effective than forskolin itself. Our major interest is in the significant up-regulation in cAMP production realized from this unique compound and process. Q: Do I use Chain’d Out® Before I Train or After?

A: In all honesty all three: Before, during and after training. Not only does Chain’d Out taste amazing and have a refreshing pro-recover affect you feel, it assures proper hydration and the strongest anabolic and anti-catabolic environment. We have had amazing positive mental and physiological results reported from mixing 1-3 servings of Chain’d Out® to the appropriate amount of cold water and drinking between meals. Q: Do I Take it with My Protein Shake or Meal?

A: All proteins break down into amino acids and some compete for muscle receptor sites and/or enzymes. The result is something good may get kicked out, like BCAAs. Since Chain’d Out® passes through the GI rather quickly, you simply need to be sure you have not consumed proteins for 2 hours prior or 20-30 minutes after ingestion. Pretty simple, huh?

Q: I Noticed you didn’t add any form of Glutamine to Chain’d Out®. Why?

A: As mentioned prior, amino acids can compete for muscle cell receptors. They can also compete for GI uptake and digestion. Some studies support glutamine and BCAAs are examples but there is far more to the issue.

Metabolism of oral/dietary amino acids by the gut and liver has a major impact on the amino acid profile reaching systemic (whole body) circulation. Specific examples include removal of nearly 100% of dietary glutamine and glutamate, 60% of threonine, and 40% of phenylalanine during the absorption process largely by oxidative degradation (degradation to carbon/ glucose, ammonia and uric acid). The top exceptions to this pattern of modifi cations are the BCAAs. Over 80% of dietary content of leucine, valine, and isoleucine directly makes their way to blood circulation. Unfortunately, once they make it to muscle cells and the brain (other organs as well) they are easily converted into glucose and glycogen (sugar) due to several physiological action/reaction factors. Unless, of course, they are in a protected time-release anti-catabolic/anabolic matrix.

1) Hyperammonemia is an over-abundance of ammonia in the body resulting from the breakdown of amino acids to ammonia and glucose (gluconeogenesis for energy) which in turn increases the utilization of branched-chain amino acids in muscle. This is especially prominant when ketoglutarate is low, and is further enhanced by glutamine depletion. Sounds like more glutamine would be cool then, huh? (At the right time… it is)

Unfortunately not only is glutamine the most abundant amino acid, it’s also the most abundant gluconeogenic amino acid in the human body. In fact its conversion to glucose is about equal to that of alanine. The kidneys alone produce about 25% of whole body glucose production… from glutamine. Now ponder the additional amount converted to glucose in muscles and other organs then consider just how much circulatory and muscle bound ammonia waste results. Now think about reconsidering the first paragraph again: More ammonia (hyperammonemia) means more BCAAs utilized for energy in/by muscle resulting in lean mass loss. Therefore, a signifi cant increase in blood glutamine concentration can signal hyperammonemia and thus increased BCAA/lean muscle loss.

You know that ammonia smell you run into all over the gym? Yup, that is the smell of muscle loss. Is it you?

2) Tyrosine, which increases levels of dopamine and norepinephrine, is also one of our substrates for glutamine. Tyrosine competes with BCAAs absorption into the brain and low tyrosine can cause loss of energy, fatigue and depression. Since glutamine is a substrate of tyrosine, ingesting BCAAs and glutamine together potentially hinders performance as well resulting in lower intensity and less productive training or performances.

3) An interesting study on BCAAs aff ects upon fatigue was conducted in Japan: First Department of Internal Medicine, Okayama University Medical School, 5-1, 2-chome, Shikata-cho, 700 Okayama, Japan.

The molar ratio of excitatory amino acid neurotransmitters (glutamate and aspartate) to inhibitory amino acid neurotransmitters (raminobutyric acid, GABA, and glycine) in the brain was diminished in acute hepatic failure rats with hyperammonemia, brain edema, and abnormal electroencephalograms. The ratio was further decreased with a marked elevation of arterial and brain ammonia levels 30 min after ammonium acetate was administered i.p. to hepatic failure rats. A continuous infusion of a branched chain amino acid (BCAA) solution before and after the ammonia loading eff ectively reversed the ammoniainduced lowering of this ratio; high ammonia contents in the brain were concomitantly decreased. Infusing glutamate instead of the BCAA solution failed to produce similar eff ects probably because of limited entry of glutamate into the brain. The above results suggest that excitatory and inhibitory amino acid neurotransmitter ratios (glutamate, aspartate, and GABA) are positively aff ected by BCAAs. In short, BCAA supplementation reduced brain/physical fatigue.

So more muscle and better performance if we simply don’t mix glutamine with BCAAs.Glutamine is paramount to health and recovery, but timing is everything.

Q: Does Chain’d Out® Contain Any Sugars? I’m on a Keto Diet.

A: No, and more importantly it’s far more difficult for alpha-hydroxy-ester protected BCAAs to convert by way of gluconeogenesis to glucose resulting in greater fat stores being used as energy substrates.
